Allanbank Mill Steading is situated in the special rural open landscape of the Scottish Borders. It is the home and studios of the artists, Pauline Burbidge and Charlie Poulsen. They have lovingly renovated this set of farm buildings, converting them from farm use to studios, for their art practice.
Pauline works with textiles, collage and stitch, making wall hangings and quilts. Charlie makes large scale drawings, sculpture and ‘growing sculpture’. Together they have created and developed a magical and unique environment of gardens, studios and home.

2022 marked our last OPEN STUDIO event, although you can see photos and a film below, as a reminder of these special events (run over 30 years).
In the future, we are going to run special STUDIO VISITS, taking a more casual approach. This is a chance to see our studios, more as they are when we are working. There will also be finished works on display, and a chance to see the garden!
Charlie & Pauline’s
STUDIO VISITS will be held over the weekend of 24th & 25th MAY 2025
at Allanbank Mill Steading
Booking will open on 1st March 2025
This is planned to be a more intimate event, and numbers are limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment. We look forward to seeing you!
